Currently the sewer and water lines run through an easement over the propery at 119 Scugog Street. Your lawyer will have provided you with an undertaking from the Region of Durham to connect these services to Second Street if they have any problems. There are stubs already in place on Second Street.
If you plan on keeping the fish pond, some technical details follow. You will see the food to feed them (only when the temperature is above 10). I have prepared the pond for winter with a hose pumping water vertically to keep an opening in the ice for oxygen for the fish. The plants should be stored in the basement for winter. The summer set up is as follows. Connect the pump (after cleaning) to the hose running up to the half barrel. Place the basket of clean foam in the barrel and cover. Connect the pipe exiting the barrel to the secondary filter tube which is placed in the upper water container (parts are all in the garage). The pump is plugged into a secondary GFI outlet and the main GFI outlet is on the porch.
Just to the right of the family room patio door you will see a barrel built into the patio. In summer connect the downspout directly to the barrel. It is used to top up the pond. There is a valve at the west side of the barrel to open to add water to the pond. A hose runs underground to the pond. When it is full it overflows through pipes and into the flower bed at the south. The hose from the downspout connects to the rain barrel (in garage). If kept at the proper height it will stop when full.
The downspout to the west of the deck is another source of water for topping up the pond (See photos). There is a valve that can be left open unless there is lots of rain. It connect to a hose that runs to the pond. Do not use tap water as the chlorine will kill the fish.
The rooftop antenna brings in over 60 free tv channels. It is currently facing south west to bring in most Toronto and Buffalo stations. Use the rotor control in the family room to fine tune the direction and to point the antenna to other locations such as Rochester. There are co-ax cable connections in both the family room and the basement great room. An antenna booster is plugged in in the basement work room.
The PVR is in a box in the family room. As well as recording content on its hard drive, it also connects to the internet for more features.
Dishwasher
If the water is not hot enough an orange light will come on late in the cycles. Just turn the dial slightly to turn the light off to advance the cycle.
Air conditioner
Remove the wooden cover before use.
Exterior water taps.
The south and east taps have been turned off and drained. The garage tap stays on all year.
Trap seal primer
Just inside the crawl space to the upper left is a tap connected to a water line. This line was installed to fill the trap seal drain at the west end of the basement. It is not needed as the air conditioner water drains into this site to keep the trap sealed.
Fruit cellar
Close the vent at the west and stuff the insulation pack into the cavity in winter to keep the area at a good temperature.
Downspouts at the west of the porch.
You can remove the long pipes and connect with the plastic units to run the water down the rocks. The danger is that with heavy rains there might be foundation seepage.
Mason bees
The bee house is stored under the BBQ for winter. Hang it on the downspout above the storage barrel in summer.
